3rd Annual Community Safety Awards

#WeekInJustice: Week 177

Our week started out Saturday morning with our 3rd Annual Community Safety Awards.  Thanks to the very hard work of Shawndrea, Tony, CT, Sofia, Fabian, Nahrin, Catie and our communications summer intern Parker. It was a beautiful and thought-provoking event. We honored 9 amazing Pima County residents for their extraordinary service to the community, ranging from working with the homeless to those suffering mental illness and all the way up to the Good Samaritan acts that saved the life of a University of Arizona student last summer. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for these folks and the new nominees for next year.

On Tuesday, in our effort to further develop a relationship with the new director of the Arizona Department of Corrections, we toured the Alhambra unit in Phoenix and then the women’s prison named Perryville way out in Litchfield Park.

I chose June deliberately at 117° in Perryville to observe operations for myself. I am looking forward to being a strong partner to new increased efforts on programming designed to help people prepare to leave prison and re-enter society successfully. Many of our attorneys are in a training and education season as part of maintaining their law licenses, and I was very proud to be invited to my usual ethics lecture at the State Bar Convention in Phoenix.

By Friday, I swung back through Oro Valley in time to join Javier Gherna our civil deputy in the election’s unit to attend a Southern Arizona training with Secretary of State Adrian Fontes as we prepare to have the safest election season possible.

To be continued,
