Heavy trial load, lots of victories

#WeekInJustice: Week 193

  • We are continuing to experience a heavy trial load with lots of victories, as we continue to work through the COVID 19 backlog.  Getting through the trial docket will require innovation and cooperation, and I am continuing to meet with Superior Court to examine ways to do this much needed and heavy work without breaking and burning out more employees working in the justice system.
  • While we await final word of who will be seated in the State legislature, we continue our work on critically important legislation to help fix our cash bail detention system, to secure a desperately needed red flag law, and to modernize our public records laws.
  • Two of PCAO’s best were honored at the Board of Supervisors meeting as Pima County GEMS this week. Congratulations to Mark Hotchkiss and Daniel Karbon for their outstanding work here at The People’s Office. Thank you for everything you do.
  • And, earlier this week I had the inspiring opportunity to help give the opening remarks at this year’s Teen Town Hall hosted by the Pima College Access Network. I along with other local officials spoke to 100 students from across the region to discuss mental health, substance misuse, education inequity and other topics. It’s the 30th year of the event, and I really enjoyed hearing from the leaders of the future about their concerns of today. (Photo Credit: Armand Saavedra)
