Continuing our learning and growth to help better serve

#WeekInJustice: Week 195

As part of our ongoing efforts to continue our learning and growth to help better serve the people of Pima County our leadership team is in training.

Chief Civil Deputy Sam Brown and I spent some time in Chicago, IL attending a Public Rights Project conference to learn more about equitable and fair civil rights practices, guidelines, and procedures. We are also connecting with other agencies from across the country to discuss how to effectively move forward during these changing times.

Meanwhile, Criminal Bureau Chief Mark Hotchkiss and seasoned prosecutor John Strader made their way to chilly Minneapolis, MN with TPD and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to attend the Public Safety Partnership Summit. The goal of the summit is to share tools, strategies, data, and technologies to reduce violent crime in cities across the country. They also looked at victim-centered approaches to violent crime issues and reasonable solutions.

And our Chief Criminal Deputy Josh Moser drove up to Mesa, AZ to attend the Arizona Association of Counties annual conference. The conference gives us an opportunity to collaborate, learn and network with other county leaders while looking at public policy choices and the challenges faced by county governments. Here at home, our Communications Team stopped by the Pima County Transition Center to get a tour and better understanding of the services available to those are released from custody.  Pillar and Bridges collaborated with the Department of Justice Services to open the doors for the tour. The much-needed center uses a proactive approach to preventing recidivism, while giving people the tools needed to get their lives back on track.  The center is looking to expand its reach by having services available 24/7. Maria Arey, Nahrin Jabro and Tony Gallego attended the tour Friday morning and connected with Justice Services, TPD, CODAC, HOPE and other organizations.

We are in the final stages of wrapping up our annual report and we’re looking forward to sharing all the progress that our office has made this year with our casework, community connections and our positive outlook for 2025.

To be continued,
