Big week at PCAO! We welcomed Chief Deputy Kim Hunley, highlighted our MMIP work, celebrated staff, and earned a Silver Award for our giving efforts.

#WeekInJustice: Week 211

We started the week by welcoming our new Chief Deputy County Attorney Kim Hunley, who started with “The People’s Office” one week earlier than expected and hit the ground running. Kim previously served as Chief Deputy County Attorney in Santa Cruz County, Senior Litigation Counsel for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, in private practice, and has eight years of prior prosecution experience at PCAO. We’re looking forward to reaping the benefits of her extensive legal knowledge and leadership skills.

On Wednesday, Laura spoke at the 4th Annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous People’s (MMIP) Symposium at the U of A. She shared insight into the important work we are doing with our Intergovernmental agreements with both the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Tohono O’odham Nation to help better serve all of us in Pima County. She also talked about our participation in the MMIP Taskforce.

This MMIP effort also was the focus of an interview Laura did along with Pascua Yaqui Attorney General O.J. Flores with KOLD earlier today. Keeping the critical work of the taskforce in public view is important while working toward solutions.

Another awesome highlight of the week was participating in the Pima County Employee Public Service Recognition event at the historic courthouse. Laura stood side by side with other county leaders handing out goodies for two hours to show appreciation to our staff for all the important work we do every day. We met a lot of people and were filled with joy to see the smiles on their faces.

PCAO is pleased to be among those nominated for United Way of Tucson’s Champions of Caring Award and Best Large Company. The “Employees Care About Pima County” (ECAP) released their nominations for departmental awards and the charitable giving of Pima County Attorney’s Office employees earned a Silver Award.

We truly appreciate each and every one of you who helped make the 2024-2025 United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona Annual Campaign a success. And hats off to our PCAO ECAP coordinators Stephanie Barker, Star Romero, Rosa Ramos, Lisa Dauer, Bianca Rosales, and Angelica Garcia.

To be continued,

Laura
