#WeekInJustice: Week 221

This week, Laura spoke to the media about a heartbreaking domestic violence case that ended with two lives lost. As a result, PCAO held a press conference where Laura discussed the important data associated with DV cases that have been prosecuted, refused, and waived.

These are an account of incidents that PCAO has seen since 2018. The goal was to educate the public about what’s been happening locally and to share critical information about domestic violence signs and resources like Emerge for those who need it. The press conference can be seen on our YouTube channel.

Laura and the PCAO communications team made a stop at CODAC’s new Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) and toured the facility. CODAC held a ribbon-cutting to mark the launch of the much-needed community program. Laura, along with District Pima County Supervisor Andrés Cano, Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen, and other CODAC leaders, discussed how critical the services at TRC are to the health and well-being of our community. Laura focused on the importance of making self-care a priority when you are in the position of being a caretaker. One survivor also shared her story of resilience and how she was able to get assistance at a critical time in her life when key services were needed to help her heal and move forward. The services support adults who are 18 and older, especially those who are survivors of violent crime in underserved communities. The comprehensive program is available to all participants at no cost.

Be well,
