#WeekInJustice: Week 229
Laura had an active week; one of her stops included the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona to talk to 3L law students Nick Flores, Justin Bowen, and Christian Freeman about the Pima County Attorney’s Office. They wanted to know more about why she decided to run for office, the dynamics of her relationships with the community after key decisions, her leadership style, growth, and recruitment. They also talked about what it’s like to work in a complicated role as both the D.A. and the County’s Attorney.

On Wednesday night, Laura participated in a very important discussion called “Safe Passage: Transit, Crime & News Media in Tucson” at La Suprema Works and Events in Barrio Viejo. Laura was on a panel along with community leaders Danny Howe, Caitlin Schmidt, Dr. Jesus Magana, and Zion Alderette. She spoke with members of the media and the community regarding the issue of news coverage involving justice reform, homelessness, solution-based reporting, substance use disorder and tapping into community members who have lived experience on the issues. The event was hosted by HeyJoeMedia.

Today, our misdemeanor attorneys are getting the training they need to make the transition to felony caseloads. During the weeklong program, they held mock trials in Superior Court courtrooms with opening statements, cross-examinations, and closing arguments. They also get the rundown on the rules of criminal procedure, issuing cases, Donald records, victim compensation, ethics, and more.

Until next week.
