#JusticeinPimaCounty: Week 56

We’re only a month into the New Year, and I’m astounded by the volume of work that PCAO staff have already completed and the incredible projects that are in the pipeline in 2022. I met with my senior leadership team this week and was so invigorated by the updates–so many of our prosecutors heading back to the courtroom with trials in full swing; the retooling and expansion of our diversion programming; and re-engaging with neighborhoods across Pima County, beginning with our first Community Cleanup of the year next Saturday. One of the biggest endeavors is our project to become a paperless Office, and this week, the folks from Karpel visited us to move it forward.

One of the biggest endeavors is our project to become a paperless Office, and this week, the folks from Karpel visited us to move it forward.

  •  The Karpel team met with our IT Manager Joseph Alvarez, prosecutor Bruce Chalk, paralegal Amiee Crenshaw, and other staff (pictured) to review our current case management system, CAMMS, and also collected data from Initial Appearance staff, along with Grand Jury, Juvenile, Victim Services, and Investigations units. They also took a quick trip to the 15th floor, which you might remember has stored thousands of boxes of paper files that have been gradually transferred while we prepare to implement the new digital system. Once we go paperless, staff and attorneys will be able to upload everything to the cloud so they can access information and documents in Court and anywhere else when needed.
  • On paper (no pun intended), our workforce is 310 full-time and part-time employees strong. But we also have a team of dedicated volunteers in our Victim Services Division whose praises deserve to be shouted! This week, our Volunteer Coordinator Kristin Dever met with 59 of them over Zoom where we celebrated their accomplishments in 2021, including a jaw-dropping 8,500 hours they donated to support, educate and empower victims in crisis, on-scene, and in Court. We celebrated those who helped mentor new volunteers and our COVID crusaders, who continued taking shifts once we returned to in-person response. And we commemorated yearly milestones (including three people who have volunteered for at least 10 years and one person who’s been volunteering for Victim Services for 25 years!). Our gratitude to each and every one of them.

To be continued,
Laura
